Alaskan Adventures

(Or More Posts to Come after the Holiday Hiatus)

Hello everyone! I hope that you are enjoying a beautiful July. I wanted to share an update on my graduate school progress: classes are finished, a new teaching assistantship starts this September, and research continues!

I’ve recently returned from a very rejuvenating (and nearly internet-free) family vacation. My family went somewhere we always wanted to go–ALASKA! We enjoyed glaciers near Juneau, berry-picking in Sitka, kayaking in Ketchikan, and, on our way back, I visited Vancouver Island for the first time. More microbiome stories to follow this upcoming week. Stay tuned! How’s your summer?

Hello! My name is KCBauer and I am a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia. I am a researcher, writer, musician, and explorer. Originally from Washington DC, I graduated with a BA in Music and BS in Biology in 2014. This blog focuses on the gut microbiota, the trillions of microorganisms that reside along the digestive tract. My grad research at UBC examines the role of the gut microbiota on human health, brain development, and anthropology. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy ambling through Vancity, listening to music, reading science journals, and hiking. If you have questions, ideas for blog topics, suggestions for place to visit in BC, or corrections send me an email at KCBauer@msl.ubc.ca.

Several years ago, we enjoyed a day on Vancouver Island and a night in a B & B there, with Margaret and Kevin when they lived in Olympia. Butchart Gardens was wonderful. I’d love to go back. I hope we get to see your pictures soon.
